Cowichan Steelhead Construction is a build and renovation company based in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island. Their West Coast style, timber framing techniques, and green building practices make them a unique and skilled team.
Plus. Their projects are just beautiful.
The Cowichan Steelhead Construction team gets most of their business through referrals, but they knew it was time to have a website that could showcase their featured projects and services.
They also wanted to position their business in the local build and renovation market as the go-to source for large-scale renovations, builds, decks, and timber framing.
This project was extra special because I got to touch every part of the creative process. I wrote the website copy, designed the page flow, and photographed the build projects.
Plus, I learned so much about timber framing (when you build without nails, the pieces just fit together seamlessly) and sustainable/green building tactics.
The one-page website focuses on clean, minimal design to focus your eye on the photos of the featured build and renovation projects. We used lines to create structure, a bold font to emphasize strength, and almost all grayscale for a modern look.
The website photography was amazing to capture. Getting to see the finished builds and renovations was already a great experience, but learning about the different materials and techniques made the photography process extra cool.
My favorite section of the website is the featured projects section which shows the incredible work of the team at CSC. Website visitors can scroll through different projects with descriptions and details from each.
The Website Copy
The website copy on a one-page website is key because we only have so much space to communicate about your business.
For this site, we knew we wanted a section on traditional timber framing construction for anyone who may be unaware of this style of building. While it’s not the sole form of building that CSC does for clients, it’s a differentiator in their build style and is often a standout technique for West Coast-style projects.
We didn’t include too much copy through the page. Instead, we let the featured projects and testimonials from their clients speak for themselves.
The tone of the website is expert, empathetic, and direct. When someone lands on the CSC website, the goal is to show examples of featured work, provide social proof, and create trust that they are the experts in their specific services.
Project Review
It was so fun to build every part of this website and see it all come together! I also love that starting with this sleek landing page gives the CSC team the ability to add more pages and content over time.
The Client’s Review
We immediately got such great feedback on our new website! Belle is organized and she kept the project moving smoothly. We couldn’t be happier with the final result. The 1-page website was a great move for our company and we’re excited about our updated online presence.
