I met Megan of Rose Creative Co. wayyyyy back in the day.
We quickly bonded over our love of photography, and have now spent many years cheering each other on in our business ventures and eating tacos together.
Megan hired me for her first-ever brand shoot in 2021, and I hired Megan to photograph my wedding in 2023 which she absolutely CRUSHED by the way.
(Side note — it’s such a blessing to work with and hire creative friends!)
All of this is to say I was over the freaking MOON when Megan brought up refreshing her website design and copy this year.
Rose Creative Co. is Megan’s photography business.
Her creative eye is refreshing, colorful, and she captures emotion beautifully. I’ve always admired her skill and ability to connect with the couples and families she works with ahead of her sessions.
Megan had used a template for her website and written her own copy when she started her business. When we started chatting about refreshing her site, her vision was crystal clear…
A refreshed look, current portfolio, and the big one: Copy that truly sounded like HER.
It can be tough to stand out in the busy wedding photography space. There are many wonderful photographers, so the trick is to differentiate your website with stunning imagery and your own voice.
Megan has stunning imagery (check!) and a unique process for how she gets to know her clients to create fun sessions. What was missing was a website that showcases all of this in one place.
The project goals?
The first step was to update the palette and font. (Well, technically the first step was the strategy phase, but after that we dove into design!)
After playing with a navy tone, we decided to shift to a dark, rich green as the standout color, and then focused on white space to allow for the imagery to stand out in the design.
We also did a few iterations of the font before deciding on this elegant font, Editor’s Note, by Jen Wagner. Seriously one of the best decisions of the entire project – Megan saw the style and said, “let’s do it” and we’re both SO glad she did.
The modern, sleek look worked BEAUTIFULLY with Megan’s portfolio of images showing proposals, weddings, and branding content.
Another decision that I’m happy we went with is to change up how the pages were organized.
Megan offers a variety of session types – from weddings to portraits to business content – and the way her pages used to be structured was to showcase each session type on the same page.
This worked well when Rose Creative Co. was a bit smaller, but as her business grew it made way more sense to separate her core three sessions onto their own pages.
This also allows for the copy to speak more directly to the people seeking those services. For example, the wedding page addresses the desires and questions of those looking for a wedding photographer.
SPEAKING of copy… Let’s talk about the copy!
Through the strategy phase (initial call, questionnaire, research, and kickoff call) I developed the voice for the website – Megan’s voice.
She is kind, witty, warm, and understanding. With a passion for storytelling and a talent for connecting on a genuine level with people to better tell their stories.
Using this voice, we open the website with the statement:
“It’s honestly magical that we can capture the most special, joy-filled moments in our lives and relive them over and over. Because sometimes the mental pictures just aren’t enough.”
Because that’s what photos do. Allow us to not rely on our mental pictures so we can relive the special moments of our lives. And with Megan’s skill, your memories will look as beautiful as they feel.
The copy I loved the most?
The opening header to the wedding page… “Love is the best thing there is. Let’s celebrate yours.”
When you’re getting married, it’s nice to have that reminder that these photos are doing just that, celebrating yours.
The term ‘heartfelt’ took a while to narrow down.
I knew I wanted to find a term that could describe the unique style of Megan’s photography without trying any over-used terms like ‘authentic’ — even though that does describe her imagery.
I tried ‘refreshing’ and ‘genuine’ but neither of those terms really captured what I was looking for, so I did some more synonym research and finally discovered ‘heartfelt’.
When I find the right word, it’s such a win. It can really bring together the copy for a website, and heartfelt was just the perfect word to incorporate into headers and truly describe Megan’s style and approach.
My favorite part of this project was seeing the galleries of weddings – it reminded me of the impact of Megan’s work.
Knowing that these couples will always have these memories of their loved ones together, celebrating their commitment and lives together is just too special.
The gallery pages were actually a last-minute design addition but SO worth it because they showcase the breadth of Megan’s skillset and showcase what your wedding gallery could look like – something many couples appreciate when deciding on their photographer.
I also loved the about page – getting to share Megan’s story and a bit more of her personality while ALSO highlighting how her approach is unique as a photographer was a fun section of the website.
What a creative JOY this website was to create.
Once we decided on the visual direction, the voice of the copy, and the goals of the site, the website seriously POURED out of me.
Within two weeks, the SEO foundations we set up for the new website paid off and Megan saw her first lead come directly from Google. This is a huge win.
Although Megan’s referrals and social media are fantastic lead sources, getting her copy set up to rank on Google AND convert leads once they’re on her site is a major success as she grows her business.
I’m so proud of our work together and just so grateful to support fellow creative business owners as they do incredible things.
“Working with Belle was an absolute game-changer for my business! From our very first meeting she understood exactly what my brand needed and we just clicked. Her talent for capturing my brand’s voice in the copy wasn’t just good – it was exceptional. She executed my vision even better than I could have imagined.
What truly sets Belle apart is her remarkable attention to detail combined with her creative intuition. Belle was a breath of fresh air and I was so grateful to have her in my corner for my brand and website refresh!
She was consistently responsive, met every deadline, and went above and beyond by offering insights I hadn’t even considered.
The final result is a website that not only looks stunning but truly captures the essence of my brand. Without a doubt, the best investment I’ve made for my business that really took my brand to the next level!”
